United State of America is the most controversial country in the world. It's dominating power over other countries have made the country lose it's glory in the last decades to an outsider.
Although I debate often on political and other subjects, I do feel that it is my duty to stand up this time and defend the country I chose to live in.
10 years in USA has given me enough insights to be able to tell the world, and to those who never lived here, to those who live here but show no love and respect to the country they raise their children, and to those who complain day by day about their bad life in America.
People, even friends keep calling me Hungarian, as a honest mistake mixing that with my origin. I am from Hungary yes, left that country ten years ago to live and die in USA, but I am NOT Hungarian. Your country of your belonging starts from your heart, not at your birthplace. You can't choose where to born but you can choose where to live and die. I love my family and although they do still live in Hungary and they have no intention to ever leave, me as a "black sheep" decided to take my fate in my hands and decided to choose where my grave will be when the time comes.
Please allow me to tell you why I chose and love this country, why I chose to live and die here, no matter how hard it gets - and trust me it does get hard.
- People here do believe in something. They believe in their God or themselves, or their family or their friends, or all together. An American - no not a paper based default American who was born here, or got citizenship by marriage, but a true American who really is one in his/her heart - pursuit his/her dreams, never gives up until achievement or until death. Believes and pursuit, falls and stands up. Falls again, and stands up again.
- Following the previous point... you can believe and pursuit your beliefs, practice your religion and you will NOT be ordered and told what to believe in. Read, watch, learn, say, comment, teach whatever you want. You have an open road to walk on and grow. People might place opinions on your beliefs but no law or force will tell you not to do that.
- It doesn't matter what kind of job you have, what kind of education, as long as you work hard, you make your keep, you can pay your bills. The secret lies in the first point above, with that you can build a life, have love, family and future, regardless of your social position. The material and financial level of your life obviously may vary on job or education but in general, as long as you work hard, you have a good life.
- Technology. See I love technology. I read and learn as much as I can to collect knowledge in this fast evolving science. United State of America is one of the leaders in technology and it's not only available to anyone, but also affordable.
- Low taxes, low prices. Daily basic products, food, clothing, communication, transportation is comparatively cheaper in this country. Driving a car with very low gas cost, comparing to European prices. Food, clothing, communication is cheaper than many other countries comparing at the earn/cost balance. Easy life.
- People know how to have fun. A family/friend gathering is always fun with Americans - again, Americans in heart, not on paper only - and while there are political or other type of debates occur, it still kept on friendly tone. Joyful games, lot of laugh and good times at a true American party..
- Love. While marriage is extremely over rated here, expensive diamond ring, expensive wedding and money often shadows happiness in that, Americans still very romantic people, so love does expresses itself, yes just like in the movies. I know, I have seen it.
In my ten years I have learned that despite the official media pressured image, a flag and a book itself DOES NOT make this country to choose it as my home. It's about the people around me.
It doesn't matter how bad the world can get, even when things don't go the way I want them in my life and even though sometimes I get sad or feel for a while that I might give up... at the end of the day I still am happy to live in America!
